Problem Solving In Excel The macro may not be available in this workbook or all macros may be diabled

I get the following error message while trying to run some code I've developed. I just made some changes to this subroutine so odds are that it's missing.

The first thing I do is check if other macros are working. I have one that inserts a blank cell and shifts all the other cells down within the active column. I try it and it works.

I did move the macro from ThisWorkbook to a module so it can be called by other routines.

I press Alt+F11 and search for the string in the error message "book.on"

Private Sub Workbook_Activate()
 Application.OnKey "^+{RIGHT}", "ThisWorkbook.OnCtrlShiftRightArrowKeyPress"
 Application.OnKey "^+{LEFT}", "ThisWorkbook.OnCtrlShiftLeftArrowKeyPress"

End Sub

I modify the code to the following:

 Application.OnKey "^+{RIGHT}", "OnCtrlShiftLeftArrowKeyPress"

I run the code via F8.

and then try the function again. It fails with the same message. I check the change I made and see that I did it wrong and fix it. Another test and the the fix works.

I save and back up the code.

My view at Yankee stadium

Daily 5 Minute Journal - July 24, 2016

Today I mowed the back yard and cut up some branches, went food shopping and took my wife to train station and took dog on a play date.

It's 2:23 pm and I'm a little tired.

I've been into Scott Adam's blog lately, which I find very interesting

I was at the Yankee game with my son. We left at 12 PM and got to the gate a 1 PM for a 4:05 PM game against the SF Giants.  I got a spot on the street and saved $30.

There was no batting practice and we got there 3 hours early to see it. Amazingly, my son still got a ball.  He's up to 47 balls now.

Unfortunately the Yankees lose in extra innings. Brian McCan could have won the game with a long fly ball, a walk or a grounder past the infielders. He got up with bases loaded and he swung at the first pitch and blooped a short fly ball which was caught. The man on third couldn't tag up.

Also, no Arod. If you do go to a Yankee game the best seats are in the grandstands behind home plate as these seats are in the shade.

I'm having pains in my arms, I think from lifting weights. Almost feels like my tendons/ligaments are injured. I have to rest them or take it easier at the gym.

This is the 3rd time +Tim Ferriss  advice didn't work

  1. His slow-carb diet failed
  2. His 30 gms of protein within 30 minutes of awakening failed
  3. His suggestion to gaining strength failed as I injured myself

Daily 5 Minute Journal - July 11, 2016

I'm on vacation today and I've spent most of the day reading through Scott Adam's (Dilbert creator) Blog on Persuasion.

I've started working on the outline for a book called The Persuasion Bible.

I've always been interested in the subject and have read a number of books on it. Recently I've seen new reasons to use it in my daily life.

At work some of his suggestions appear to have been useful to get others to help me out..

I'm also re-reading his great book How to Fail at Almost Everything and Still Win Big.

Yesterday I was at the Sands Point Preserve and had a nice time. Lot's of dogs.

My weight this morning was 169.2 which is higher than I need to reach my daily goal.  I'm going to try to limit my calorie intake to 1500 calories.

Another thing I tried as suggested from Tim Ferriss' 4 Hour Body was to take pictures of what I ate. I've been unsuccessful at doing this. I'm not sure why.

Today I went to the Dermatologist for a checkup and everything was okay.

I already took my dog for a walk and find she's very lethargic. Yesterday I read about dogs eating garlic and it's one of the symptoms of poisoning.  I noticed that the Trader Joe's treats I've been giving her has garlic in it.

Even though I'm on vacation I have to do my self-review and send out an email for others to follow up. I've been procrastinating on this.

Are you underappreciated?

If you are, tell me in the comments below, because I can help you be appreciated more and feel your pain.

The most common places to be underappreciated is at home and at work.

I help people all the time and feel underappreciated. The worst was when they gave a co-worker an award at work and not me. I did at least half of the work if not more.

Ask yourself are you under-appreciating someone?  If you are the person might:

  • quit
  • leave
  • get even
  • stop working hard
  • find someone that appreciates them
  • perform poorly

Trip to Cornell

I'm back from my trip to Cornell to pick up my son. We brought the dog and it went well for me but my other son doesn't like the dog. Same son drove part of the way, which I like.

We ate at Mark's Pizza in Ithaca, NY, Pizza was very good and they had outside eating so we were able to bring the dog there.

We also at at Purity Ice Cream and bought the dog her own vanilla. I had a brownie Sunday with Chocolate Debris which was also delicious. There were 3 other dogs at the ice cream place

Storage Closet

We got a storage closet to store my son's stuff. It's a weird place that makes me feel there's a terrorist storing his supplies there. I hope the government keeps tabs on this.

We used Google maps to get directions from Cornell to the storage closet and had to go back and forth 3 times. The third time we went there my son said "Let's do it without Google Maps."  So we did and it was so easy. I tried to show him the power of something that's hard at first can become so easy.

Cleaned Garage

Prior to leaving I decluttered the garage with the help of my son. I wish I had taken before and after pictures. It's amazing how quickly I can accumulate junk. I'm throwing out my hockey net. I feel sad about it. Hockey has very good memories for me, but my kids never got that interested and it's time to move on.

4HB problem

4HB is shortcut for Tim Ferriss' Four Hour Body. My review on Amazon is here.

I highly recommend this book.  I enjoyed reading it but there is so much information I'm not sure where to start with implementing it. Unfortunately my gym Planet Fitness doesn't have kettle bells or weights to do a dead-lift or bench-press.

Be an Idea Machine

I starting reading Claudia Atucher's book Become an Idea Machine which basically gets your to come up with ideas to work your idea muscle.

The author makes the point that most people say they don't have time to come up with these ideas so they should create 10 moments that have. Here is mine:

  1. Before bed
  2. In bathroom
  3. 1 item per hour and you'll come up with ten in ten hours
  4. On train
  5. Subway
  6. During daily walk from work
  7. While walking the dog
  8. While waiting
    1. On a line
    2. at a stop light
    3. for the train or subway
    4. for the elevator
    5. for computer to run a report at work
  9. While making coffee
  10. While eating meals
  11. While taking a shower, don't have a good way to record them
  12. Before turning on TV
  13. Before laying down on couch
  14. While driving to gym

The first 2 exercises are to come up with

  • 10 ideas on things I dislike and gratitude for them
    1. Aging. If you're not aging you're dead
    2. Pain. No pain no fingers
    3. Death. Grateful that I'm forced to do as much as I can in this life
    4. Osteoporosis. Grateful that I have bones.
    5. Boss. Grateful that I have a job
    6. Long Drive to Cornell. Grateful that my son was smart enough to make Cornell
    7. People blocking Escalators. We have the technology to create escalators
    8. Terrorism. Grateful that most people live peacefully
    9. Waiting on a line. Grateful that there is a product I want that I'll wait for
    10. Woman at work lets door slam in my face. I'm grateful I have a job
    11. Not making $ from my ideas. I'm grateful that I have ideas
  • 10 Apps I want.
    1. App that helps you live longer
    2. App that helps me identify and reach my goals
    3. App that automatically finds money and deposits it into my bank account
    4. App that tracks rude people and makes them take classes to get rid of their rudeness
    5. App that finds all spelling errors and helps you improve your writing
    6. App that lowers my blood sugar
    7. App that helps me LWAKIO
    8. App that turns Ideas to $
    9. App that does STS or Smart Task Selection
    10. App that locates the nearest easy to use bathroom

Loss data to phone

I'm using an app that I like a lot called Color Note. It's a to-do list/list type app. I entered some data to it for the address of my storage closet. Before I leave I check and the data is gone. This fits into the general problem of data loss. It's a good reminder to backup your stuff. What data of your's is vulnerable to loss because you don't have a backup?

$1.49 Chicken Nuggets

Burger King is running a $1.49 promotion for 10 chicken nuggets. This is obviously a loss leader as you'll wind up buying much more. I go to McDonald's for lunch and they're charging $3.99 for 10 nuggets. I buy water and a soda but stop at Burger King across the street for the $1.49 nuggets and that's it.

Blog

I have to start taking more pictures that I could include them in this blog. I'm not in the habit of taking enough pictures so I can get more people to read it or just to remind myself of the pictures.
